Apple provided my test unit for review. It was a 16-inch model with an M5 Max under the hood. As always, you can get the M5 Max in a 14-inch size, and that’s where my preference is. You need a 16-inch monitor when you’re in professional applications all day and don’t plan to use an external monitor, but 4.7 pounds is a lot, and it doesn’t quite fit on a table at a coffee shop.

There are no changes to the screen, speakers or webcam, but they all remain at the highest level. This is especially true for speakers. I’ve always said that the 16-inch MacBook Pro’s six-speaker sound is good enough to throw a party with, and it’s probably louder, more bassy, and fuller-sounding than anything else. Bluetooth speaker You own. The screen still comes with an optional $150 upgrade to nano-texture glass, which is absolutely worth the money. It’s as clear as a glossy screen and deflects light and glare like a matte screen.
Tandem OLED is said to be coming. OLED’s color accuracy, clarity, and low input lag are unparalleled, but beating the current Mini-LED MacBook Pro will be tough. It has great HDR performance, and reaches a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. Games, videos, and movies look great.
Likewise, the 24-hour battery life has also changed from previous generations. And while it won’t last long in your daily workflow, it’s on another level compared to alternative Windows laptops like Asus Pro Art B16. These laptops can compete on power, but not on battery life.
The ports are also unchanged in this model. However, Thunderbolt 5 first appeared in the MacBook Pro in the previous generation, and has become more useful over the past year as more accessory makers emerge. Docking stations become available which can take advantage of high bandwidth. I still wish there was more Thunderbolt 5 External solid state drives There to use those higher bandwidth speeds.
Let’s get to the one thing that truly What’s important about this model: the M5 Max’s performance. The M5 Pro and M5 Max build on the improvements already inherent in the M5 core chip, such as improved single-core performance and greater GPU power. The chips are put together using a new Fusion architecture previously found in Ultra chipsets Mac studio desktop. M5 Max is two Parts of silicon, a big change from Apple’s previous strategy of developing a single ultra-efficient chip. I don’t think we’re really seeing the fruit of this change yet, but it’s likely to be an important key to the direction the company’s chipset will go in the future.
All of this means that performance on the M5 Max MacBook Pro is excellent. And by star, I mean outrageous. And by outrageous I mean it’s so fast that it’s hard to know what to throw at it. That’s a benchmark in terms of benchmark CPU benchmarks like Cinebench and Geekbench 6. And remember: You get an extra 7 percent of multi-core performance when using High Power mode, which cranks up the fans.
