After last week Netflix leak development After Paramount left Skydance prepared to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, we now know more about what the future holds for streaming services Paramount Plus and HBO Max. The plan is to consolidate the streamers into one device, Paramount CEO David Ellison said Monday during a call with investors.
“As we said, we plan to combine the two services together, which gives us a little over 200 million direct-to-consumer subscribers today,” Ellison said on the call. “We believe this really puts us in competition with the leaders in this space.”
“At Paramount, by the middle of this year, we will have completed the integration of our three services into one unified package,” Ellison continued. He explained the company’s approach in the coming months and said: “We think the combined offering and given the volume of content and what we can do from the technology side will really put us in a position to compete with the more sophisticated players in DTC.”
Last week, Paramount Skydance won the bidding war over Warner Bros. Discovery after Netflix declines. Paramount is acquiring the entertainment company in a $110 billion deal that will combine its broadcast operations and catalogs. The media merger is still subject to regulatory approval.
It appears that merging Paramount Plus and HBO Max into one streaming platform will put HBO Max shows like The Pitt, Euphoria, and House of the Dragon alongside Paramount Plus shows like Landman, Survivor, and South Park.
