Cricut has announced new versions of two of its cutting machines that could appeal to crafters with limited space to practice their hobby. The new Cricut Explore 5 is 30 percent more “compact” than Explore 4 which was launched a year agowithout reducing the size or types of materials the machine can handle. The new Cricut Joy 2 is a smaller alternative to the Explore 5 and adds the ability to precisely cut pre-printed materials so you can finally open an Etsy sticker shop.
The Cricut Explore 5 is available starting today for $199 and comes with enough materials to create up to 30 projects. They can also be purchased as part of more expensive packages that include additional tools and materials. Despite being an inch smaller in some dimensions than last year’s model, the Explore 5 can still cut more than 100 different materials, including cardstock and vinyl, up to 12 inches wide. It’s compatible with six tools, including various cutting blades, and includes an additional upgraded pen holder to enhance the device’s writing and drawing capabilities. You can get it in dark gray or teal, and it’s exclusive to Michaels.
The Cricut Joy 2 is also available today but is much cheaper at $99 with enough materials for 35 projects, or you can get more expensive bundles that include more. It can cut more than 75 different materials up to 4.25 inches wide, and includes a new “print-and-cut” sensor that can precisely cut images printed by another device. It launches in three color options including blue, coral and Michael’s exclusive jade green.
