Dyson Vac pencil It was one of the most interesting Cordless vacuums I’ve used it for years because of its ultra-light and ultra-thin design, which makes it feel more like a broom than a vacuum. The new Dyson PencilWash keeps the same style but adds wiping function for $349.
I tried it out at Dyson’s Soho store to clear up some clutter, and I was impressed by how easy it was to use.
The PencilWash weighs less than 5 pounds and is just as thin as the PencilVac.
According to Dyson, the new PencilWash weighs just 4.9 pounds and features a 1.5-inch thick handle that houses all the major components, including the motor and battery. For me, using it was very similar to the PencilVac in terms of maneuverability and its ability to get under furniture and around tight corners. Battery life should last about 30 minutes.
The only difference is that the PencilWash comes with Dyson’s Submarine cleaner head, which includes a mop roller, water tank, cleaning solution and dirty water tank in the brush head. Despite the added ingredients on the brush head, it wasn’t much heavier for me to use than the PencilVac’s Fluffycones cleanser head. I definitely liked using it more than the heavier one Dyson Wash G1which comes with a larger water tank, but feels like a chore for quick cleaning.
The Dyson PencilWash can lay flat to put under low furniture because it doesn’t have a bulky water tank.
In terms of cleaning ability, I didn’t get a chance to do a thorough test, but Dyson let me scratch out the CNET logo on the wood floor with a marker, then let me use the PencilWash to clean it. I did it without any hitches. After I finished, I couldn’t tell there was a mark at all.
As with other Dyson wet cleaners, the PencilWash uses a combination of wetting, agitation and extraction to clean hard surfaces. It doesn’t technically use suction, as many wet and dry vacuums do, so it’s more of a powered rotating mop than a vacuum, similar to a vacuum cleaner. We tested the Hezero F300.
According to the company, it always uses fresh water to clean floors, and the high-density microfiber roller contains 64,000 threads per square centimeter, allowing it to remove both wet and dry debris. No filter is needed, so there’s nowhere for dirt, odors to get trapped, or reduced performance due to clogging.
Everything is in the submarine cleaner head, including the mop roller, clean water, dirty water, and cleaning solution.
The Dyson PencilWash will cost you $349, making it cheaper than $600. It is also less expensive than Dyson Wash G1Which starts at $770. At this price, I can see the PencilWash as a more capable alternative to the Swiffer and a more versatile option than bulky wet and dry vacuums.
