If you are interested in Go paperlessMaybe you think you need a scanner. It’s true that hardware scanners make converting multi-page documents to PDF files very simple. But most of us don’t have easy access to a scanner.
What we have is PhonesThese phones have very good cameras. This is where scanning apps come in.
These apps let you take pictures of each page of a paper document, crop the edges of the image and straighten everything, and then merge those images into a PDF file. The scanning app is useful, but there’s a problem: a lot of the apps out there are a mess.
That’s what makes FairScan stand out. It is a document scanning app using your Android phone that only scans documents. That’s it.
Written by FairScan creator Pierre-Yves Nicolas In a blog post In the past year, he has already tried several Android apps for scanning documents. “They all exhibited behaviors that I definitely didn’t want,” he says. These behaviors included obvious things like ads, hidden privacy violations, and questionable practices like storing your documents in the cloud — and then using them to train AI — with just a little text message letting you know this happened.
FairScan, which is free and open source software, does none of that. He scans.

To get started, simply install the app. And yes, it is only available for Android at the moment, but you can download it from the site Google Play Store Besides F-robotAn open source Android application repository.
Prepare the document you want to scan, and place it on a flat surface in a well-lit room. Then point the camera at the front page. A green box will surround the page — adjust it so it surrounds the part of the document you want to scan. Take the photo when you’re ready.
If you have more pages, you can click the plus button to add them; This allows you to repeat the process with the next page. You can do this as many times as you want, allowing you to scan a multi-page document.
When you’re ready, you can export the scanned pages to a single PDF file or multiple JPEG files.
There are a few things you should keep in mind while scanning. First, lighting will be of great importance. You don’t want your phone’s shadow in the photo, so make sure you don’t put your phone between the light source and the document you’re scanning. I find that the application works best in a room with diffused lighting, whether it’s multiple lights illuminating your work surface, or several windows letting in plenty of natural sunlight. It is also useful to try to make the paper document as flat as possible, to avoid distortions.
