Threads’ new “Dear Algo” feature lets you tell the algorithm what you want to see

Threads now lets users in the US adjust what’s recommended in their feed by typing “Dear Algo” in a post and explaining what they’re looking for. The feature is part of a Greater push across meta platforms To give users more control over the types of posts recommended to them.

Dear Algo Kahn Inspired by Users post this phrase to try to influence what they see before Meta releases an official version. The feature was already available for testing in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom, and now that testing is launching in the United States. “We will continue to iterate based on community feedback before rolling it out more widely,” says Meta spokesperson Alec Booker Edge.

To use the feature in a public post, type “Dear Algo” and then a description of what you want Threads to show you more of. Once you submit your request, the change will remain in effect for three days so you can see how your feed has changed. If you want to see more new content in your feed in the long term, engage with those posts.

You can also ask Topics to show you fewer of a specific type of topic as well. And if you see someone else’s Dear Algo request and want what they request to appear in your feed, you can reshare that post.

“We want Dear Algo to make Threads feel more personal – whether you’re following trending topics or exploring niche interests,” Mita says in a blog post. “It’s another way we help you find the latest conversations relevant to you.”

Meta has begun serving ads globally on Threads As of last monthBut Hayes says the company will “continue to be cautious and cautious” about expanding how prominent ads appear on the platform until “we feel like we’ve made the app real value to you, but we’ve also made the ads real value to you.”
