Super Bowl Tailgate photo essay: Bad Bunny, Big Tech, and the Big Game

Jim Lockhart, from Boston:

Did you travel to get here today?

Yes, we came early Friday morning. Planes, trains and cars from Logan Airport.

Where do you live?

InterContinental Hotel, right in San Fran, downtown.

Beautiful. I’m from San Francisco, born and raised, so I’m proud of my hometown. Hope you enjoy your stay.

Oh, you know what? They did an incredible job. San Fran was very convenient. Everyone has been great. Friendly bartenders, waitresses, concierges and Uber guys. Everyone’s been great, man. They did a great job. The city went up. We went to Alcatraz yesterday, and what an experience. We love it. The Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge and all of those. It was a great experience.

What are you most excited about?

I’m excited to see the game. I’m excited to make some money down there.

I was about to ask you. Yes, did you place any bets today?

Of course I did. I’ve got bets on everything. Coin toss, Gatorade, everything. First pass, everything. I got a mortgage on it.

Have you done any prediction markets?

So you can’t bet here on Draft Kings. It’s a strange thing. So I had to place all my bets with the bookmaker. Offline.

Do you have any thoughts on the potential for ICE agents in the region?

No, I’m from Boston, you know? We love ice. In my drinks and in the streets. Let’s go. Let’s keep those borders, and close them.

And do you have any thoughts on Bad Bunny?

I think it’s disgusting that there’s a guy who doesn’t speak English playing in the Super Bowl, in the The largest sporting event in America. And there’s a guy singing who doesn’t speak English, and he also said he was leaving America and never touring here again. My kids love him and stuff. I don’t know him well enough to have an opinion, but if he’s going to sing in Spanish and stuff like that, I mean, come on.

Will you be watching the halftime show?

No, I’ll go out.

Are you going out?

I’ll go to the beer line. In protest. I know it won’t make a difference, but you know what?

Have you taken a driverless car since you’ve been here?

We’re trying to figure this stuff out, but it makes me kind of nervous. you know what i mean? It’s scary for me to watch a car pass by without anyone driving it. But we took those scooters last night. So we were, like, Sons of Anarchy on these scooters last night. It was great. That was very fun.

You have scooters in Boston, right?

We do. I’ve never taken one. We left a bar yesterday — a Patriots bar, a party — and took them all the way back to the hotel.

If you have a chance to ride a Waymo before leaving, I think it’s a fun experience for a tourist.
