Apple is making CarPlay compatible with chatbots like ChatGPT

Apple CarPlay users may soon be able to talk to their favorite AI-powered chatbot.

Apple is reportedly working on how to support chatbot AI apps within CarPlay, According to Bloombergwhich cites anonymous sources.

Apple CarPlay is an app that runs on the iPhone and communicates wirelessly with the car’s infotainment system. It displays some applications on the user’s phone on the car’s infotainment screen. Drivers can interact with these apps, including AppleMusic, messaging and navigation, through the Siri voice assistant.

Apple’s next-generation CarPlay Ultra goes a step further, including a touchscreen center display and a digital dashboard located directly in front of the driver, giving users control over specific car settings.

In theory, this latest move would bring Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, and OpenAI’s ChatGPT into the car, at the risk of putting its Siri assistant in the back seat.
