If you’ve been wanting a way to keep all of your family’s health records in one place, there may be a solution now. Fitbit Co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman have announced a new health platform called Luffu.
Luffu, which translates to the Old English word for “love,” uses artificial intelligence to create what it calls an “intelligent family care system.” The platform allows family members to share all their health information through the application.
Luffu will allow families to track everyone’s doctor appointments, test results, vaccine records, medications, symptoms, diet, and more. It’s not clear when Luffu will be officially available, but you can sign up for the game waiting list for now. Pricing or other details have not been announced.
“We’re building Luffu as a premium, service-first app experience,” a Luffu spokesperson told CNET. “Details on pricing and subscription models will be shared closer to the beta and launch date.”
“Luffu is also powered by AI and is built into the entire experience to help families capture and organize health information with easy scoring, see what’s normal over time, notice what’s changed and get proactive guidance on what to do before it becomes a concern, so the whole experience is like having a guardian of your family’s health and safety,” the Luffu spokesperson said.
By knowing your family’s health history, the platform can alert you to changes that need to be addressed, such as missing medications or abnormal vital signs. The app will also connect to third-party apps and wearable devices, such as Fitbit. A company spokesperson noted that Luffu will eventually have its own first-party devices to connect to the service, but for now, the focus is on the app.
Luffu aims to ease the mental burden of caring for a family by organizing all this health data in one place. “I was caring for my parents from all over the country, and trying to piece together my mother’s health care across various portals and providers, with the language barrier making it difficult to get full, timely context from her about doctor visits,” said James Park, co-founder of Luffu.
It is still unknown what medical platforms Luffu will connect to, but a company spokesperson said Luffu aims to connect to almost any health portal.
A Luffu spokesperson said privacy and security concerns are top of mind, as the platform will connect to apps that contain user-private information. Luffu will include alerts as well as space to record health information and medications through voice, text, images, portals and other health devices. Key medical information can be shared via the platform with spouses, carers and parents.
Correction, February 5: This story initially contains incorrect information about Luffu’s owners and release date. Luffu was created by the founders of Fitbit and the platform launched on Tuesday, February 3.
