Google Cloud’s chief customer officer is returning to Microsoft as head of security

Microsoft has a new head of security. Hayete Gallot, who left Microsoft in October 2024 to become head of Google Cloud customer experience, returns to the software giant as executive vice president of security, reporting directly to CEO Satya Nadella.

The move means that Charlie Bell, former head of security at Microsoft, will take on a new role at the company. “I have also asked Charlie Bell to take on a new role focused on engineering quality, reporting to me,” Nadella says in an internal interview. Bill spent nearly five years leading the security, compliance, and identity teams at Microsoft. The company has faced security issues in recent years, after a series of high-profile incidents that rocked Microsoft. Hayete is now leading efforts to continue SFI and ensure that Microsoft’s AI era is focused on security first.
