If the words While “sleeper sofa” still conjures up images of a musty, squeaky, lumpy pull-out mattress as thick and backing as a peanut butter sandwich, you might want to take a look at what’s happening in the world of convertible furniture lately.
Modern sleeper sofas now come with true luxury mattresses, such as Tempur-Pedic mattresses Elliot Joybirdor offer multiple seating and sleeping configurations, e.g Wanda’s koala. Neptune, from Montreal-based direct-to-consumer home goods brand Cozey, is aiming for something completely different: a sofa with… Modular components They can be moved or added, along with the seats that can be pulled out to create a double or full-sized bed, depending on the size of the sofa. Add storage under each seat and machine washable fabric, and you’ve got a versatile setup perfect for guest rooms and living rooms alike. That is, as long as you like things constant.
Cozey offers a variety of Neptune packages, from easy chairs and benches to five-seat sectionals and everything in between. Bed size options include a double or full bed, with optional storage, armrests and headrests. For testing, I selected a four-seat section with a full-size bed, in Performance Slate upholstery. It looks almost like charcoal online, but it turns out to be a lighter medium gray with a strong woven texture. There are four other performance colors available (green, two beiges, and grey) and four basic neutrals in Aquaforte, Cozey’s proprietary water- and stain-resistant fabric—a very small selection compared to other brands, but that’s the price one pays for having stock available for immediate shipping.
The last sofa I have tested, by definition internalIt took approximately four months to arrive, but a few months is pretty typical for custom-made furniture. Fortunately, the Neptune—which I’ve now been testing for about six weeks—arrived in four days via free FedEx shipping, in 13 unwieldy boxes. A medium-sized woman, 5 feet 6 inches tall, I had no problem carrying each box around the house, but I struggled to take some of the heavier boxes upstairs myself.
