Anthropic says “Cloud will remain ad-free,” unlike an unnamed competitor

Anthropic has announced that it will no longer serve ads to its chatbot Claude, in sharp contrast to confirmed plans from OpenAI to allow advertising in ChatGPT. To further illustrate this point, the company is launching a Super Bowl commercial that mocks unnamed competitors adding ads to their AI.

“We want Cloud to act unequivocally in the best interest of our users,” the company says in a message New blog post. “So we made a choice: Cloud will remain ad-free. Our users will not see ‘sponsored’ links adjacent to their conversations with Cloud; and Cloud’s responses will not be influenced by advertisers or include third-party product placements that our users did not request.”

The ad goes on to highlight why including ads doesn’t align with what we want Claude to be. She points out that the profit incentive can interfere with providing the most useful advice to a user who asks about health issues such as sleep problems, and that ads may be a distraction for anyone using Cloud for work.

However, Anthropic makes sure to leave the door open for reflection: “If we need to reconsider this approach, we will be transparent about our reasons for doing so.”

The change a few years later may seem hypocritical in light of the new Super Bowl ad the company is running to highlight its advertising. It is one of four commercials Released so far on YouTube On the same topic, humanized AI systems drop ads in the middle of their advice. The Wall Street Journal Reports indicate that a shorter, 30-second version of this ad will air during the game on Sunday, with a separate one-minute commercial featuring Ad-supported AI processor During the pre-match show.

None of the ads mention ChatGPT by name, but their goal is clear. OpenAI Announced last month Advertisements will be coming to ChatGPT soon for free users or users in the cheaper Go tier, though they will supposedly be “clearly labeled” and be far from the chatbot’s answers to queries.
