the Dyson pencil vac It was one of the most interesting Cordless vacuums I saw it last year, mainly because it didn’t look like any other cordless vacuum I’d ever seen. I called it “the lightest, thinnest vacuum I’ve ever used.” In 2026, that’s still true, and it’s finally true Available for purchase In the US for $599.
The design is the real innovation here. The PencilVac weighs just 4 pounds and feels more like using a mop or broom than a cordless vacuum. I used it in Dyson’s Soho showroom for a while and was impressed by its maneuverability and ease of use. In terms of dimensions, it measures 45.7 inches long, 8.1 inches tall, and just 1.5 inches wide. It can reach up to 3.7 inches to reach into tight spaces and under furniture, and comes with green LED lights on the front and back to help you detect dust.
Emptying the PencilVac dislodges dust and debris like a piston or syringe.
The trash can, although small at 0.02 gallons, uses a unique linear separator system that compacts dust while vacuuming, similar to the idea behind Animal piston V16 Pressure lever. Tossing is a little different, as it uses a syringe-like plunger that shoots dust into the trash, and should reduce getting dirt everywhere or having to reach with your fingers to pull stuck-on bits of debris out.
In terms of other specs, the PencilVac uses two FluffyCone cleaner heads, which are distinct conical heads designed to prevent hair twisting. In theory, the PencilVac should clean well, thanks to its dual brush rollers (four brush bar cones total), designed to avoid tangles and clean evenly well when moving back and forth. In terms of performance, Dyson says it has a 140krpm Dyson Hyperdymium motor and 55 airwatts of suction power, so we wouldn’t expect it to match the V15 Detect’s ultimate 240 airwatts in terms of picking performance, but we’ll need to test it to know for sure.

We plan to test the PencilVac at CNET’s Louisville lab to see how well it works, though to do that, we’ll need to adjust some of our lab tests to catch because with a 1.5-inch nozzle width, the PencilVac will be the narrowest we’ve ever tested, and our tests are currently designed for a wider nozzle width.
The PencilVac is designed to be versatile, as it can be placed under furniture, around tight corners and even the ceiling.
At $599, the PencilVac may seem like it’s on the higher side for a cordless vacuum; We have a lot on our best list that can cost you under $400, and the best ones overall, Eureka Reaction 440it only costs $180 at full price.
However, with Dyson, you’re really paying for the design, and compared to higher-end vacuums in its range, like the $850 Dyson V15 Detect Abstract, it’s not outside the realm of what we’d expect. outside Manual broomsYou probably won’t find a versatile cordless vacuum until Dyson’s competitors start making them.
