The LARQ Bottle PureVis 2 has become my emotional support water bottle, thanks to its hydration tracking feature.

Any time I felt tired growing up, one of the first questions my mom would ask me was, “Did you feel that way? Drink enough water“Moreover, I have been a health writer for the past decade, which has enhanced my knowledge of how important staying healthy is. Adequate hydration every day. However, I have never been able to track how much water I drink. I assumed that my body would tell me when it was thirsty and that drinking water would be enough.

I was wrong. When I started testing the hydration tracking Lark Pureface 2 bottle For CNET List of the best self-cleaning water bottlesI realized that my previous moisturizing method wasn’t working. Now that I have a water bottle to track my water intake, it’s clear that I may not have been drinking enough water before, and that was negatively impacting my health.

What I love about this hydration tracking water bottle

The LARQ PureVis 2 is primarily designed to keep your water sterile with UV-C LED technology to remove 99.999% of Salmonella and 99.99% of E. coli. It also comes with a filtered straw that removes pharmaceuticals, chlorine, PFOS, and PFOA. The last two are chemicals made in a laboratory May have adverse health effects.

However, my favorite feature is that it connects to the LARQ app, which lets you track how much water you consume.

To determine how much water you should drink each day, LARQ asks you about your date of birth, gender, height, weight, and activity level. You can also adjust this amount yourself.

Multiple pictures of water consumption

On the main screen of the LARQ app, there is a percentage, fraction, and line graph showing how much you drank today. Depending on the time of day, the curved status bar also shows whether you’re drinking enough water at a pace that allows you to meet your daily goal. In the app, you can set your “wake” and “sleep” hours so it knows your schedule.

I like that this bottle offers multiple visual indicators to show how much water you’ve been drinking, so I can easily tell if I need to take more sips with just a glance. You can also set up reminders to hydrate the top of your water bottle to glow during the hours you’re awake, prompting you to drink more water. This glow is surprisingly bright, so you won’t miss it.

In the middle of the two app tabs at the bottom is a plus sign that you can tap to add drinks that didn’t come from your water bottle. Admittedly, I sometimes forget to do this. Six options are included — water, coffee, tea, soda, juice, and milk — where you can add the number of ounces and the time you drank the beverage.

Immerse yourself in your hydration history

At the top, it shows the days of the week, each surrounded by a curved status bar, so you can take a look at how much water you’ve drank. If I’m feeling uncomfortable or low on energy for a few days, I’ll often return to this schedule and realize I haven’t been drinking enough water. Dehydration can cause fatigue.

Below the line graph is a “Line” section that displays the number of consecutive days you reached 100% of your hydration goal and your personal best. At the bottom is the “History”, where you can see every time you drank water from the bottle and how much you drank.

Environmentally friendly analytics

When you click the Devices tab in the bottom bar, you can see your device, battery level, last time it was filtered with a UV-C LED, and information about the filter in the straw, if you choose to use it. If you click on the filter, you can see its age, the volume filtered, the percentage that has been exhausted, and the option to request Three packs of new filters ($30+).

At the top right is an Analytics button that displays some of my favorite data. There’s a bar graph that shows how many gallons of water you’ve drunk over the past week, month, or six months. Below, you can see your environmental and financial impact: how much money you’ve saved on bottled water, reduced carbon footprint and reduced plastic waste.

Long battery life

A single full charge with the included USB-C cable lasts two to three weeks. Typically, my usage lasts about three weeks, but I do use Adventure Mode, which requires more power and takes 3 minutes to self-clean the bottle with a UV-C LED lamp. It is best used with less reliable water sources in more remote areas, such as hiking.

Instead, I let my bottle clean itself automatically in Normal mode, which activates every two hours for 10 seconds. Sometimes I also press the top button once (to turn on adventure mode twice) to turn on normal mode for one minute.

What I don’t like about this water bottle

price: The reason I hate how much I love this water bottle is primarily the price. The 23-ounce version costs $129, while the 34-ounce bottle (which I own) costs $139. This is expensive for a bottle of water. A cheaper alternative would be a Bottle with time and ounce markingsbut you’ll have to track the daily total yourself. this It also has motivational phrases.

Manual cleaning: Another downside is that you still have to clean the bottle manually. Although it is “self-cleaning”, it only applies to water and parts of the bottle that UV-C LED technology can reach. Therefore, LARQ still recommends giving the bottle — especially the cap where buildup may occur — a warm, soapy rinse every now and then.

Straw: I was tired of cleaning the straw, and because I was having trouble keeping it in place in the mouth of the bottle, I decided to remove it. I already fill the bottle with filtered water and avoid using it with less reliable sources, like running water while walking, so I don’t feel the need to keep a straw around.

measuring: Finally, the only other downside I can think of is that the 34 ounce bottle doesn’t fit in my car’s cup holder, so I have to slide it into the compartment in my car door or place it on the passenger seat. However, it fits into the side bottle pocket of my backpack when I travel. It fell out of a pocket once and survived the drop with only a minor dent on the stainless steel bottle and a small scrape on the BPA-free plastic cap.

Final ruling

Even with the negatives I mentioned, I still love it This water bottle. The water intake tracking feature has helped me make sure I’m drinking enough water every day, which supports my health and, specifically, my energy. I also like that it gives me data on how much plastic waste I’ve prevented by drinking from it Reusable bottle.

Essentially, this has become a water bottle that supports me emotionally. I’m grateful that it gives me one less thing to track during the day, albeit one of the most important things: hydration.
