Spotify launches group chats

After launching a Messaging feature Last August, Spotify Now started rolling out group chats. Company Announce This week, users can now share the podcasts, playlists and audiobooks they listen to with up to 10 people.

You can only start a conversation with someone you’ve previously shared content with. For example, if you have a collaborative playlist with someone or joined a Jam or Blend together, you can start a conversation with them.

The move comes as Spotify continues to invest in building its own streaming app More social. Over the years, the company has gradually added social elements, including features like comments on podcasts and the ability to follow someone and see what they’re listening to.

Spotify has previously noted that users should continue to share content outside of the app, with its messaging feature aiming to complement that.

Messages are encrypted at rest and in transit. However, they are not protected by end-to-end encryption.
