Safety certificates
Only choose helmets that meet safety standards such as ASTM F2040, CE EN 1077, or Snell RS-98. These helmets will pass rigorous tests for impact resistance and penetration. Don’t be tempted to wear a ski or cycling helmet unless you know it meets the same safety standards.
Compatibility with Google
Ill-fitting goggles and helmets can be very annoying on the trails. A goggle frame that is too large can put pressure on the sides of the helmet and make it feel uncomfortable, while the gap between the top of the goggles and the helmet not only feels a bit uncomfortable, but can get painfully cold in subzero conditions. To get the perfect fit, try to choose a helmet from the same brand as your goggles, or vice versa. Fits Smith, Sweet Protection, and Anon branded helmets and goggles particularly well. If you have a smaller head, avoid oversized glasses, even if they look great, because a helmet may put pressure on the glasses, making them uncomfortable on your nose.
ventilation
One thing first-time wearers notice is how comfortable warm helmets are, even on cold days. However, if you get hot easily (as I do), it’s worth looking into helmets with additional ventilation. Not only do these holes and cuts prevent you from overheating, but they also push cold air up and away from your glasses, preventing fogging. The best helmets have a slider/switch that enables you to open and close the vents to adjust the flow of cool air.
Audio compatibility
If you want to listen to music during your turn, look for helmets designed to accommodate headphones. Options like Bluetooth Alec nunchucks An opening inside the compatible earbuds, either via a small zipper or Velcro opening. Make sure to be careful when skating while listening to music, because you will not be aware of your surroundings.
Chin straps
The basic helmet strap has a simple buckle that works well. There are only so many times a day that you take your helmet off, but once you use the Fidlock magnetic clasp, especially when wearing bulky gloves, you’ll never want to go back on.
Padding and liners
All of our “Best Buy” ski helmets feature removable liners. Check the manufacturer’s instructions carefully, but most can be safely cleaned in the washing machine. And yes, you will start to inhale if you ski too hard.
