While IKEA is known for its affordable, integrated furniture that adorns apartments, dorms, and first homes, you rarely hear about the company in the technology space. While IKEA got involved In the smart home Technology In past years, its offerings were limited, temporary, and often required partnerships with third parties. At CES 2026All that has changed.
This was my first IKEA CESwhich is a statement in itself. The Swedish furniture (and meatball) company came well prepared, and entered the scene with an ambitious flare and security options. It could change the smart home world, and I’m not sure other brands are ready.
Ikea’s new smart lights and plugs are a bold move for the company.
One of the most impressive products from IKEA was… Heat flash Smart home lights (Yes, the classic IKEA names stick around even in their technical endeavors.) You may have heard of the Varmblixt line before, but now Ikea is adding smart technology to these stylish lamps.
Lights come in two types. One is a donut-like ring You can hang it on the wall or place it on a nearby table, casting warm light throughout the room in any color you choose. The other is a drop-down LED pendant light, more at home hanging in the corner, with shades available across the all-white spectrum.
IKEA’s latest lights are app-controlled and remote-controlled.
Both lamps impressed me, not only because of their unique and very distinct Ikea look, but also because of the new controls in the app that allow you to adjust the brightness and color to taste. They also come with remote controls that include dozens of presets, in case you don’t have your phone handy. For some of the first smart bulbs made by IKEA, this is an impressive showing.
If you’re thinking a little smaller, Ikea’s new smart home has you covered, too. the sidewalk The line offers 11 styles of Smart bulbs You can connect the sockets you already have, and turn your old bulbs into smart, app-controlled versions.
Then there Barbecue areaA Smart plug Which allows you to use the app controls on any existing plug-in lamp, as well as other devices such as fountains or… Heaters. What we saw of these app controls at CES seemed easy and effective.
IKEA smart bulbs feature bold designs and easy app controls.
Final note: Although it’s not technically part of the smart home, IKEA has announced it as well Cube bluetooth speakerswhich you can connect, stack and experiment with to fill a small space with customizable sound as well as light.
IKEA security sensors are very affordable.
While IKEA is not launching anything Security cameras (At least for now), the company has unveiled a range of security sensors, a particularly bold move that provides enough options for most people to turn their home security into an entirely IKEA-managed area.
Great sports names like Timber fleet, With albusto, Clipbook and Mosquito sprayAll Ikea smart sensors are Matter compatible, which means you can use them with the Ikea app or popular platforms like Apple Home and Google Home. They include motion sensors, door or window access sensors, air quality sensors, Water leak detection devices And other options.
IKEA sensors include door and motion sensors as well as leak detectors and temperature sensors.
The prices are especially impressive. One of the attractions of IKEA is affordability, and the same selling point applies to home security. These devices, including smart bulbs and smart plugs, are all under $10 each (Varmblixt bulbs are the exception, starting at $100).
This makes IKEA one of the most affordable ways I’ve ever seen to set up your smart security system, even when compared to the least expensive ones. Budget systems and DIY kits. If I’m impressed with the device’s performance over time while testing it, Ikea may become one of my recommendations for first-time buyers of home safety technology.
Most of these products are on sale this month, with minor exceptions, like the air quality sensor, which is scheduled to launch in April. If you’re interested, you can start building your IKEA smart home in no time.
Along with smart home technology, IKEA is also launching Bluetooth speaker cubes.
I rarely discuss Ikea in my home tech recommendations. You won’t find IKEA on any home product recommendation lists, outside of it Smart blinds are years old. They did not have a large presence in this field before, especially in the United States. However, 2026 may be the year that changes, as these new offers look very competitive.
As I start testing Ikea’s Smart lineup as new products become available, I’ll let you know if they offer budget-friendly security alternatives and if any of them end up on our best product lists. For now, things are looking promising for the Swedish giant.
