No, Microsoft has not rebranded Office to Microsoft 365 Copilot | Edge

Microsoft has once again confused the Internet. Over the past two days posts on Reddit, Pirate Newsand X Microsoft claimed to have renamed Microsoft Office to Microsoft 365 Copilot. As much as Microsoft likes to spread its Copilot brand everywhere, Office has not been renamed to “Microsoft 365 Copilot App.”

The confusion comes from Microsoft’s own Office.com Domain, which has served as a way for businesses and consumers to use the Microsoft 365 Copilot app over the past year. This app is a central app that provides access to Copilot, as well as all Office apps. Microsoft used to call this application Office, before the company Rename Office to Microsoft 365 In 2022.

If you visit Office.com, you’ll see a big welcome to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app, and a note from Microsoft that might confuse anyone who doesn’t follow the company’s confusing branding: “Microsoft 365 Copilot (formerly Office)…”

The reference to “formerly Office” is Microsoft referring to the very old Office app launched in 2019 As a way to try to get people to use online versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Until a year ago, it was called the Microsoft 365 app. Microsoft then Announced that it has been rebranded From the Microsoft 365 app in November 2024 to the Copilot app, which I and everyone else was confused about. The new app icon and name — Microsoft 365 Copilot — is next Rolled On January 15 last year for Windows, iOS and Android users.

I’m not sure why the Internet only discovered these changes a year later, but the actual suite of Office applications is still a so-called subscription plan Microsoft 365. Nothing has changed with this branding since 2022. Well, if you want to be even more confused about Microsoft’s branding choices, you can go ahead and buy Microsoft Office 2024a standalone version of the Office suite without all the cloud features and latest updates you get with a Microsoft 365 subscription.

I asked Microsoft for comment on the confusion surrounding its Office branding and Microsoft 365 Copilot, but the company declined to provide an official statement.

Now that you’re done with the latest Microsoft Office branding, I’m sure it won’t be long until the company rebrands Copilot back into In the most Microsoft way possible.
