HP crammed an entire desktop into this keyboard

HP is announcing a new mini desktop PC at CES 2026, and it’s all in a compact keyboard. The Eliteboard G1a looks like a regular desktop keyboard with either a tethered or detachable USB-C cable, but inside it’s an AMD Ryzen AI 300-series chip, stereo speakers, RAM, storage, a fan, and ports — all the stuff that makes up a computer. Simply connect this keyboard to a display (up to dual 4K displays via a daisy chain connection), turn on the included, pre-paired Bluetooth mouse, and you’re ready to go.

Very elegant, isn’t it? This isn’t a completely new idea, as it is Raspberry Pi 500 existing. But this is a single board computer running Raspberry Pi OS. The Eliteboard isn’t likely to outperform proper desktops or mini PCs in terms of performance, but AMD Krackan Point processor options ranging from the Ryzen AI 5 350 to the Ryzen AI 7 370 Pro should be more than capable for office work and productivity applications.

In addition to cable options, the Eliteboard G1a can be equipped with a fingerprint sensor and a user-replaceable 35 Wh battery for an estimated battery life of 3.5 hours. It can also be equipped with up to 2TB of storage and 64GB of DDR5 RAM via dual SODIMM slots. All in a keyboard with 2mm of key travel and weighing just 1.69lbs/726g.

The detachable cable version seems more appealing to my keyboard-heavy brain (as I’m used to with mechanical keyboards), but the Eliteboard with the included cable has a spare USB4 port for my use.

I know the Eliteboard will probably only be used in boring office and IT environments, but I kind of like it (although I doubt I’d enjoy typing on a non-mesh membrane keyboard). I henceforth call him Keyputer. My only wish is for a mechanical replacement, especially if HP finds a way to take some of the modules out of it New HyperX keyboardsAnd with hot keys.

The Eliteboard G1a is expected to launch in March, but HP doesn’t have a price. It is estimated that pricing will be finalized closer to availability.
