Kwikset has announced the price and release date Aura Reach smart lock At CES 2026 this week. The Matter-over-Thread option is more affordable compared to the premium but expensive option Halo selectAura Reach is available now for $189.
At just under $100 more than the Halo, you sacrifice built-in Wi-Fi and a built-in door sensor that lets you know if a door is open or closed. The fully replaceable locking lock also has a Class 2 security rating compared to Class 1 on the Halo line, and a more utilitarian design.
Although Aura works with Apple Home through Matter, it does not support the tap-to-unlock feature of Apple Home Key, which is available on Hala Select Plus. This model costs huge $360Thanks to Apple Tax.
However, the Aura features a touchscreen keyboard with a built-in backlight that turns on when you approach, thanks to the proximity sensor – a nice touch.
The aura also works with Kwikset’s hands-free auto unlock feature. This uses a combination of Bluetooth and geofencing to unlock as you approach. Additionally, you can also open it via Bluetooth using the Kwikset app.
Although there’s no Wi-Fi, because the lock works with Matter-over-Thread, you can control it when you’re away from home by connecting it to a Matter platform, like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Apple Home. However, you will need Thread boundary router – which could be an Apple TV or an Echo smart speaker.
Kwikset says the Aura also has a new optional signal range booster, which “doubles the performance of the Matter network.” This may be useful if your thread border router is not located near your front door.
Finally, you can also just use a traditional key, and it supports Kwikset’s SmartKey Security, which lets you rekey the lock yourself.
