DoorDash says it has blocked a driver who apparently faked a delivery using artificial intelligence


DoorDash appears to have confirmed a viral story about a driver using an AI-generated photo to lie about making a delivery.

After his posts began to gain attention, Hobart offered more detailsAdmitting that his story would be very easy to fake. But he noted, “Someone rang down to say the same thing happened to them, also in Austin, with the same name displayed as the driver.”

As for how the driver did it, Hobart speculated they used a hacked account on a jailbroken phone, and obtained a photo of his front door through a DoorDash feature that displays photos from previous deliveries.

A DoorDash spokesperson told TechCrunch: “After quickly investigating this incident, our team permanently removed the Dasher account and ensured customer safety. We have zero tolerance for fraud and use a combination of technology and human review to detect and prevent bad actors from abusing our platform.”
