Video without title Of the latest Jeffrey Epstein files dropped from Ministry of Justice It is being circulated on social media. While the 12-second video allegedly shows Epstein committing suicide in his prison cell, Previous document In production it is made clear that it did not originate from the Ministry of Justice itself.
“I found an alleged video of Epstein’s suicide (leaked from an anonymous source),” the email says, noting an attachment and linking to a Google Drive file. “Is this real???”
WIRED spoke with the owner of the phone number listed on the website listed in the email signature. Ali Al-Qabbaj, who identified himself as an independent journalist, said he found the video on the dark web and sent it to federal investigators in 2021 for verification. He says he has not received any response.
“I was shocked to be in these files,” he told WIRED.
The video first appeared when it was shared by Drop Site News On X As “12-second video from 4:29 a.m. on the day Jeffrey Epstein died.” Although this latest round of Epstein files is not yet on the Department of Justice’s website, they apparently guessed the link by following the URL format of previous releases. WIRED identified the email associated with the video following the same format as the previous file display.
The link to the video file on the Department of Justice’s website now appears to be broken, but the footage appears to match a video that appeared on YouTube in 2019. The person who uploaded the video describes its contents as a “3D graphics rendering.” The Ministry of Justice did not respond to an immediate request for comment on why the link stopped working, but over the weekend, the ministry responded Remove several other files From its website for further review and revision.
In June 2023 a report During Jeffrey Epstein’s time in prison, the Department of Justice’s Office of Inspector General concluded that there was no video camera in Jeffrey Epstein’s cell. In fact, on the night Epstein died, “recorded video evidence…of the SHU area where Epstein resided was only available from a single prison security camera due to a malfunction in the digital video recorder system at MCC New York that occurred on July 29, 2019.” New York City’s chief medical examiner ruled Epstein’s death a suicide in August 2019.
However, conspiracy theories have followed Epstein’s death, fueled in part by the circumstances of the available video evidence. In July, the Justice Department released what it described as “complete raw” surveillance footage from the prison camera that was in operation. As WIRED first reported, metadata indicated that Instead the footage was edited. Further WIRED analysis revealed that the video was actually two clips stitched together, Cut to approximately three minutes From screenshots of the process.
The Epstein Files Transparency Act requires that the Justice Department release all non-classified records in its possession related to the investigation and prosecution of Epstein. So far, files released by the Justice Department include photos of Epstein’s island home and his Manhattan home, Epstein’s associates including Ghislaine Maxwell and former US President Bill Clinton, various travel records and grand jury materials.
