Four Star Chef Knife 8 Inch

The Zwilling Four Star Chef Knife is nominally listed at $145, but is often sold for closer to $100. Either way, it’s a great knife at an excellent price for nothing, when paired with meal kits. Zwilling is one of the oldest knife companies around, and their knives also tend to be made to last. This 8-inch knife is a strong, ergonomic V-shaped blade designed to take a beating without chipping. Its Rockwell hardness of 57 is a little softer than what you find in professional kitchens. But this makes it forgiving compared to some of the more brittle carbon steels, making it great for casual home cooks who don’t mind using Sharpening rod To keep the blade in line.

But note that carbon steel requires extra care. You cannot put it in the dishwasher, and must dry it immediately after washing. It can rust if you leave it, so don’t let it. The trade-off is that carbon steel retains its edge much longer than everyday stainless steel. So this blade should stay sharp for a while, and rarely requires sharpening.
