Instagram wants to limit hashtag spam

If you’re tired of seeing Instagram posts with an endless list of hashtags, Instagram is making a change to stop that. In a post today, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said that the platform will now limit the number of hashtags to five per post.

“While I know it may be tempting to use more, some specific tags actually perform better than a long list of generic tags,” Mosseri says on his Instagram Tips channel. “Quality over quantity is key.” Mosseri points out that hashtags help with search, but “don’t increase your reach” — instead, you should “focus on identifying the type of content that resonates with your audience.”
