The frame uses repurposed rubberwood from the same rubber trees used to produce latex Thoma hybrid mattress line (Read our review of the medium-rigidity model here). This practice of Thuma sourcing its materials from a single source – both recycled rubberwood and latex – aims to reduce the pressure on the environment and Reducing carbon emissions. But that’s not the only eco-friendly aspect of this bed, as the wooden slats along the side are made from recycled plastic.
Thoma classic bed and Basic bed frames It comes in four wood tones – walnut, espresso, natural and grey. All finishes are designed with patina in mind, as the wood grain and finish become more enhanced over time. The cherry on top of this frame configuration comes in three headboard options: an all-wood headboard, a pillow board, a quilted headboard, or no headboard at all. The headboard interlocks with the top and side panels, while the pillow board is meant to rest on the frame between the mattress and the wall.
There are two upholstery options for both the sham and pillow, each with four color options. The performance linen fabric is a blend of polyester, viscose and linen, which together have a softer feel and are woven for durability and stain resistance. Performance Linen comes in alabaster, natural, light grey, natural and charcoal. Alternatively, Italian wool felt has a speckled look (a more tonal effect, with the cozy wool texture peeking through), is stain-resistant, and is made from a blend of recycled wool, polyamide, and other fibres. The Italian wool felt has four similar colors to complement the classic frame: heathered oatmeal, heathered grey, heathered mocha, and heathered charcoal.
Although the mix-and-match options are overwhelming, Thuma delivers Free samples So you can be positively sure. To be on the safe side with my somewhat crafty and destructive dogs, I opted for the Espresso finish and headboard and pillow combo in Natural Performance Linen.

Assembly of the Thuma Classic Bed Frame is relatively foolproof. The frame arrives in four heavy boxes, each helpfully labeled with its contents. One box contains a headboard and a pillowcase insert. Else, individual legs for each corner. The last two held the upper, lower and side parts of the bed. Although each piece arrived fully wrapped and individually sealed in plastic bags, and stacked inside boxes, I couldn’t help but feel that more padding was needed to better protect them. True to its eco-friendly mission, Thuma does not use Styrofoam; The packaging uses recycled fibres, and the plastic lids are recyclable (provided you have local facilities to do so). However, I did notice some scratches around the bed that I haven’t seen with the majority of Japanese woodworking frames I’ve tested. Honestly, if I wasn’t a sleep product reviewer and bought this frame with my own money, I would have been disappointed that it arrived in this condition.
