Luma has released a new AI model that allows users to create a video from a start and end frame

Luma, the AI-powered video and 3D modeling company a16z, has released a New model It’s called Ray3 Modify which allows users to modify existing footage by providing character reference images that preserve the performance of the original footage. Users can also provide a start and end frame to guide the model to create transition shots.

The Ray3 Modify model solves the problems of maintaining human performance during editing or creating effects using artificial intelligence for creative studios, the company said on Thursday. The startup said the model follows input shots better, allowing studios to use human actors in creative or branding shots. Loma stated that the new model retains the actor’s original movement, timing, eye-line, and emotional delivery while transforming the scene.

Using Ray3 Modify, users can provide a character reference to convert to original footage and transform the appearance of a human actor into that character. This reference also allows creators to retain information such as costume, likeness, and identity during the photo shoot.

Furthermore, users can also provide start and end reference frames to create a video using the new Ray3 Modify template. This is useful for creators in directing transitions or controlling character movements or behavior while maintaining continuity between scenes.

“Creative video models are incredibly expressive but also difficult to control. Today, we’re excited to introduce Ray3 Modify that blends the real world with AI expression while giving full control to creators. This means creative teams can capture performances with a camera and then instantly edit them to be anywhere imaginable, change costumes, or even go back and reshoot the scene using AI, without recreating the actual shot,” Amit Jain, co-founder and CEO of Luma AI, said in a statement.

Loma said the new model is available to users through the company’s Dream Machine platform. She launched the company that competes with the likes of Runway and Kling Video editing capabilities In June 2025.

The model version comes on the back of A new financing round of $900 millionled by Humain, an artificial intelligence company owned by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, for the startup that was announced in November. Existing investors such as a16z, Amplify Partners, and Matrix Partners also participated in the round. The startup also plans to build a 2 GW AI cluster in Saudi Arabia alongside Humin.
