Anyone used Image by Amnesty International or video generator He knows that these tools are often the opposite of accurate. If you’re using an AI builder with a specific idea in mind, you’ll likely need to do a lot of work to bring that precise vision to life.
Adobe is convinced it can make its AI hub, Firefly, a place where AI can be personalized and accurate, which is what the company is aiming for with the launch of new AI-powered video editing tools on Tuesday.
Over the course of 2025, Adobe has quietly emerged as one of the best places to use Generative AI tools. With Firefly subscriptions starting at $10 per month, it is an affordable software that offers integration with top models from Google, OpenAI, Runway, Luma, and many other leading AI companies. It’s expanding its roster with Topaz Labs’ Astra (available in firefly paintings) and Flux 2.1 from Black Forest Labs, available in Firefly and Photoshop for desktop.
The partnerships help make Firefly a one-stop hub for creators to leverage AI, Steve Newcomb, Firefly’s vice president of product, said in an exclusive interview. Just as Photoshop is the “professional partner” for photographers, Firefly aims to become a partner for AI-powered video and photo creators.
“If you’re a photographer, (Photoshop) has everything you could want. It has all the tools, all the plug-ins, in one place with one subscription. You don’t have to sign up for 25 different things for photos,” Newcomb said. “And for us, Firefly, our philosophy is, how can we be in this house?”
One way is through partnerships with AI companies, similar to Photoshop plug-ins. Precision editing tools are another thing, he said.
That’s why Adobe is trying to make it easier to edit AI-generated content. Hallucinations are common in AI-generated photos and videos, such as objects disappearing and reappearing, strange blurring, and other errors. For professional creatives using Adobe, the inability to edit cels makes the AI almost unusable in finished projects.
In my testing, I mostly found the editing tools to be basic, at best. At worst, they are completely absent, especially for newer AI-powered video technologies. Firefly’s new AI-powered quick editing for videos, announced Tuesday, is a way to get that hands-on control.
If you’ve edited photos in Firefly via the prompt, the video setup will look very familiar. Even if you don’t, on-the-fly editing is basically a fancy term for asking the AI to tweak things like you would when talking to a chatbot. Google Nano Banana Pro In Gemini is one example of an AI tool that allows you to edit through prompts.
Instant video editing in Firefly has the added advantage of letting you switch between templates to make edits: you can create with Firefly and edit with Runway’s Aleph, for example.
As with any chatbot or AI tool, on-the-fly editing is not always accurate. But it’s a good option without having to leave Firefly for Premiere Pro.
Notice how vector editing turned the plane into a sneaker in this example.
Newcomb said the plan is to go beyond immediate editing. More fine-grained AI-based editing tools for Firefly will be important, allowing you to make more subtle changes. What makes this possible is so-called layer-based editing, a behind-the-scenes technology that allows for easier and detailed changes in photos and videos generated by artificial intelligence.
Adobe plans to implement layer-based editing in the future, which will likely form the basis for future AI-powered video editing tools. The goal is to make it easier to continue working on Firefly “to the last mile” of editing, Newcomb said.
“We can run the continuum of precision all the way to the end, and just think of motivation as one of many tools,” Newcomb said. “But it’s never the only tool.”
For now, there’s another video editing news that can help you create more accurate videos with AI technology.
Adobe is also bringing its full AI video editor into beta on Tuesday, the next step toward making AI video editable and therefore usable.
The company’s annual debut Max conference In October, the video editor will now be released in public beta. He’s sitting in between Basic video editors And Premiere Pro is packed with features. It’ll be great for AI enthusiasts who want more editing power than you get with OpenAI or Google, without requiring Premiere Pro experience.
The video editor aims to help you bring all the parts of your project together in one place. It has a multi-track timeline for you to group all your audio clips and tracks. This is especially important because, while you can create your own Artificial intelligence speech and soundtrackFirefly AI videos are not generated with audio natively. (You can use I see 3 or sora 2 in Firefly to create those raw clips with audio.) You can also export in a variety of aspect ratios.
“Think of Video Editor as one of our core releases that helps us move toward being one place, one home, where you can have one subscription and access to every template you need to get the job done,” Newcomb said.
