Warning: I will try to justify a $40 paperweight for cable management. I don’t know how I ended up in this situation, or who hurt me. All I can say is that I’m not proud of myself, so please, have pity on me.
I have been using Weight of 3 Native Union cables For about a week. It sits on my kitchen table, which also serves as an impromptu workspace most days. It feels nice when I notice it, and I can be sure that every time I return with a MacBook Pro in my hand, I’ll find the MagSafe connector right where I left it.
Before using the Weighter, I would let the cable drop to the floor, which required a middle-aged bend and an audible grunt to regain connection several times each day. I’ve thought about using Other cable management solutions Like any of the hundreds of cheap clips sold online, I’m hesitant to put anything ugly or sticky on my expensive kitchen counter.
Precise weight production and material selection give it a premium feel. The rough but soft silicone bottom grips (and protects) smooth surfaces and provides three slots into which cables can easily slide. The aluminum top is solid with a slightly rough texture making it look organic. Weighing 170 grams, it feels heavy in the hand, adding to the feel of quality.
I wouldn’t mind it being heavier if the size can be kept small. This prevents forceful tugs on the cables from moving the weight, necessitating careful adjustment to realign the mass with the edge of the table. You see, I’m the type of person who sits down in a restaurant and immediately adjusts the angle of the silverware. Sick, I know.
I like that it’s designed to allow cables to easily slide through gaps without the USB-C or MagSafe connectors falling out. But I could do without the “Native Union” logo engraving, or the word “Paris” which I assume are meant to help justify luxury pricing. What is fashion?
