Amazon now offers same-day delivery of perishable groceries to 2,300 U.S. cities


Amazon Announce On Wednesday, customers in more than 2,300 cities and towns in the United States can get fresh groceries through same-day delivery. The e-commerce giant says it will expand the service to additional cities in 2026.

Amazon has debuted the ability to order perishable items via same-day delivery In Augusta move that was seen as a way for the company to compete more directly with Instacart and Walmart+ in the express commerce space.

Since launch, customers have ordered fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, meat, seafood, baked goods and frozen foods along with electronics, books, pantry staples, snacks and everyday household essentials like paper towels and toothpaste.

Amazon says its “specialized, temperature-controlled fulfillment network” ensures shoppers receive perishable groceries intact, and that orders undergo a six-point quality inspection upon arrival and before departing for delivery. In addition, temperature sensitive products are delivered in insulated bags.

Amazon says fresh groceries now make up nine of the 10 most-ordered items for express delivery.

Best sellers for same day delivery are Banana, Hass Avocado, Strawberry, Apple Crunch, Lime, Blueberry, Blackberry, Organic Banana, Navel Orange, and Bath Tissue.

The company also notes that perishable grocery sales have increased 30-fold since January, and that customers who add fresh groceries to their same-day delivery orders shop nearly twice as often as those who don’t.

Free same-day delivery on orders over $25 for Prime members. If an order does not meet the minimum amount, subscribers can still opt for same-day delivery for a fee of $2.99. For customers who do not have a Prime membership, the service is available for a fee of $12.99, regardless of order size.

Amazon says it has increased its selection of perishable products available for same-day delivery by more than 30% since August, and includes thousands of popular items from Whole Foods Market.
