Detachable controllers go a long way toward making the device more portable and usable. The monitor has a large fold-out kickstand on the back, so I found it more comfortable to park the controller on the table or bar in front of me, and hold the controllers at lap level. The upside to the large design is that the controllers have comfortable built-in grips, with soft magnetic Hall effect sticks, and buttons that have a soft but distinct feel.
There are also a couple of simple additions here that I think do a lot for the user experience. The first is the included case, which may not seem important, but often these portable gaming consoles don’t include one. Since they are not a standard size, it is often difficult to find a third-party holster, especially upon release. While I wouldn’t necessarily trust the semi-soft case to protect my new device in a specific bag, I’m perfectly comfortable throwing it in my bag and going for a bike ride, and I appreciate that there’s a little room for FPS mode accessories inside. The other advantage is the fingerprint sensor, which works consistently and quickly, and is much easier than trying to type a password on a touchscreen every time you activate the system, although it is a bit awkward.
Fortunately, performance on the AMD Z2 is much better than the Z2 Go found on the Legion Go S. At native resolution, with max settings maxed out but with ray tracing turned off, I was sitting at 20fps Cyberpunk 2077Standard. This may seem harsh from desktop numbers, but it’s fairly impressive for a portable gaming rig. For reference, the Z2 Go only managed 20fps with the graphics set low at the same resolution. With a little tweaking or lowering the resolution, you can easily crack 60fps in one of the most demanding modern games.
On indie titles like recently released ones ball x hole, The meter stays stuck to the screen’s 144Hz limit, which is great news, as you’ll regularly be able to take advantage of the smooth refresh rate. The painting itself OLEDIt’s one of the best portable gaming monitors I’ve tested yet, with full, vivid colors and deep, dark black levels. It measures 336 nits at maximum brightness, but what’s even more impressive is that it covers 100 percent of the sRGB and 94 percent of the AdobeRGB spectra, with a color accuracy delta of 0.86. Color coverage and accuracy are available with some of the best laptops and dedicated computer monitors. It’s a joy to play on, and despite its shiny appearance, I didn’t encounter any game-breaking issues due to harsh reflections or glare.
