Pantone Color Institute, known for creating and distinguishing specialized color shades that appear on products such as Motorola phone lineannounced that Cloud Dancer white is the color of the year 2026.
The graphic helps illustrate the Cloud Dancer shade of white, which is a bit warmer compared to the white surrounding the Pantone logo.
This white color, which debuted Thursday alongside a number of partner products that will feature the shade, was chosen after a year of community research conducted by Pantone. The choice of Cloud Dancer reflects a desire to find calm amidst a hectic society, as this shade of white aims to be more natural and tactile, said Laurie Pressman and Leatrice Eisman, vice president and CEO of the Pantone Color Institute respectively, in an interview with CNET.
“The name plays a big role because the name should evoke an emotion or feeling,” Pressman said, with Cloud Dancer continuing. 2025 mocha mousse, Peach fuzz 2024 and 2023 FIFA Purple. All sorts of factors also play a role in the color selection made by a global team, including lifestyles, movies, music and aspirational travel.
The Motorola Edge 70 in Pantone’s Cloud Dancer shade will also feature Swarovski crystals. It will be released in select markets.
“What we chose is the perfect white in terms of balance, it has equal tones of cool and warm,” Eisman said.
Cloud Dancer, which has been assigned a rating of 11-4201 in the Pantone digital system, will appear on a number of Pantone collaboration products launching throughout the end of 2025 and into 2026. These include Motorola’s upcoming phone destined for international markets, a new Play-Doh color that can be formed into clouds or mixed with other colors and a sticker color that will be part of the paper branding. Pantone has named the Color of the Year since 2000, but this will be the first time white has received this designation. Part of Pantone’s goals is to start a conversation about color when choosing a color that reflects their research, Eisman said. Cloud Dancer is meant to be a playful and light depiction of the color white, eschewing the snowy or cold shade.
Among other partnerships, the Cloud Dancer will also appear on furniture produced by Joybird, as a color-inspired Pura fragrance and – in a very fitting match – as a new white color for Command hooks and clips.
