I have a lot of headphones that come into my house every year – and I mean that a lot. Many of them are at the upper end of most people’s budget (and getting more expensive). Because of tariffs), but you don’t have to spend a lot to get great performance. Granted, a budget pair of headphones can’t necessarily go toe-to-toe (or ear-to-ear) with flagship brands from Sony, Bose, or Sennheiser. However, there are cases under $100 that offer great performance for the price. One of these is Soundcore Space Onewhich is for sale at Amazon, Best buyand Walmart For an all-time low of $67.99 for Cyber Monday.
The Space One is a couple of years old at this point, but it still holds up as a great budget option. They’re incredibly comfortable for long listening sessions, and have up to 40 hours of battery life with active noise cancellation (ANC) enabled – which will last even the longest flights. Since they are over-ear headphones, they have good passive sound isolation. Once the ANC feature is turned on, it does an excellent job of blocking out low frequencies, such as drones and close chat. They’re not up to par Sony WH-1000XM6 or Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones In ANC effect or sound quality, but they offer great performance for a fraction of the price of those headphones.
The high and low frequencies are a bit loud on the Space One, so it sounds a bit bassy and annoying by default, but you can try out more than 20 different presets or tweak the sound yourself using the eight-band equalizer in the companion Anker app. It also includes HearID audio tuning, which walks you through some comparative listening questions to fine-tune the sound to your preferences. The app also has a loudness meter to let you know when what you’re listening to becomes too loud and potentially dangerous to your ears.
One way Anker has managed to keep the headphones’ costs down is by including a fabric carrying case instead of the traditional carrying case, so you may not want to be so careless about putting them in your backpack. But aside from that being the case, there’s a lot to like about the Soundcore Space One. With its ANC technology, great sound, comfortable fit, and long battery life, getting the Soundcore Space One is a good way to spend $68.
