At first glance, it’s a game about channel surfing. You’re browsing through different broadcasts, each featuring weird, retro and realistic transmissions that are only a minute or so long, from the evening news and soap operas to quiz shows and obscure softcore segments. Each channel runs on a schedule, which means you’ll need to decide which broadcasts you want to watch as they play live, and which ones to try again the next night. The more you watch, the easier it becomes to piece together the overall weird sci-fi story Blippo+which is shown on these weird, endearing channels. Think of a TV show from the 80s Max heightbut with that sentiment sprinkled throughout, including the vintage soundtrack by Yacht’s Jonah Bechtolt and composer Rob Kieswetter.
Blippo+ is one of the most innovative games of the year, to the point of being almost inexplicable. The less you know, the better. It’s best to embrace its absurdity by diving straight into it.
