The Aeron is the world’s most popular office chair, found in offices all over the world, and for good reason. This all-mesh design is excellent for airflow, and you’ll find every adjustment imaginable to make this chair support your body. (Read more About my experience here.) You’ll be faced with several choices when purchasing, all of which affect the price, so let’s go through them:

  • framework: This is where you can choose the right color for the Aeron frame and base. Graphite is the cheapest, but you can upgrade to a polished aluminum base, for example.
  • measuring: The Aeron comes in three sizes: A, B, and C. I recommend using the Herman Miller sizing guide (click the ? icon on the product page) to purchase the right version for your body. For example, the company recommends that people between 5’2″ and 6′ tall choose size B.
  • Back support: Lumbar support It can go a long way in keeping your back pain-free after long hours in the chair. I suggest you use an adjustable lumbar brace or an SL adjustable sitting position; The latter is more supportive, and targets the sacral region of the spine as well.
  • tilt: Upgrade to tilt limiter! Allows you to specify the recline range between three angles (upright, mid-recline, and full recline). It can also tilt the seat forward for a more active and engaged sitting position. If you choose the Basic Tilt option, you will need to turn the tension knob to adjust the effort needed to recline in the chair.
  • Weapons: You have three options: fixed, height-adjustable, and fully adjustable. “Stabilized” means the arms are held at a fixed height, while adjustable height allows you to raise or lower them. Fully adjustable arms allow you to move the arms back and forth, and tilt them in and out.
  • Arm pad: Your choice if you want polyurethane foam or leather pads.
  • Wheel: This depends on whether you have a rug on your desk or not.

Herman Miller says there’s free shipping on all orders over $1,500. Just remember, the 30 percent off Aeron exclusive sale price ends November 26.

Although the Aeron may be familiar to many, it is my personal favorite The embodiment of Herman Miller. It may take a week or two to get used to its flat, thin seat, but to me, it feels like a palate cleanser now that I’ve finished testing other office chairs. It feels right, with an excellent back support system and adjustable seat depth that works surprisingly well with my 6’4″ frame. There are much fewer choices you have to make for Embody, but the toughest choice is whether to use Sync or Medley upholstery. Sync is softer and thicker, while Medley feels more textured, rough and taut.

These are just two of Herman Miller’s office chairs, but there are plenty of other options – including… Gaming versions of Embody and air– Not to mention desks, lighting and other furniture. Maybe it’s time to finally think Classic Eames appearance?
