Black Friday hasn’t arrived yet, but that hasn’t stopped Sony from doing so Start an excellent holiday promotionWhich continues until December 18th. The ongoing sale includes everything from PlayStation 5 controllers to the latest Sony accessories — including Sony’s standard DualSense wireless controller, which now matches its all-time low of $54.99 ($20 off) in multiple colors at Amazon, Best buyand goal.
Although the above deal price applies to Sony’s base models – including black and white versions – you can also opt for limited edition models inspired by Astro Bot (Walmart / Best buy), God of war (Amazon / Walmart), and Ute ghost (Walmart / Best buy) for about $64 (also $20 off). The controllers start at a higher price than the vanilla models, but realize that you’re still getting them for $10 less than the cost of a regular DualSense.
The DualSense will look familiar to longtime PlayStation fans, but it has important technical features that set it apart from Sony’s previous DualShock gamepads. A good example of this is the haptic vibrations of a wireless controller, which can make gameplay more immersive. Feeling a slight rattle on the alternating sides of the controller as the character walks through the sand is an example of what’s possible. The triggers also have variable tension, which in some games requires you to press harder during certain sequences. It’s a great feature, and we hope more developers adopt it.
As for tabletop features, the DualSense features some great grips and a built-in microphone, which lets you chat with other players online without a headset. You also have the option to connect a wired headset (or headphones) to the console’s 3.5mm audio jack. It charges via USB-C – no surprise there – and can last up to eight hours or so, which should be enough to get you through most gaming sessions. It’s not compatible with other controllers, but you can use it with a Mac or PC via Bluetooth or by connecting it with a USB-C cable.
