Nintendo released a new firmware update for the Switch 2 on Tuesday that came with some though not significant changes to the portable console. However, it appears that this update may have broken some of the console’s third-party docks in the process.
Switch 2 owners are saying on social media that their third-party consoles no longer work with their systems after the download Firmware update 21.0.0as first reported My city Thursday. It’s unclear what might be causing the issue in the firmware, but it seems to be affecting it primarily Dock donglewhich plugs directly into the adapter rather than the typical cradle-style docks that require the console to be placed in it.
Nintendo says it has no intention of obstructing or invalidating third-party docks.
“The Nintendo Switch 2 outputs audio/visuals as soon as it detects that it is docked in the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock. The Nintendo Switch does the same, outputting audio/visuals as soon as it detects that it is docked in the Nintendo Switch Dock,” the company said in an email statement to CNET.

As of now, the only docks that seem to have issues are third-party dongle docks. The standard docks and official Nintendo docks are good.
It’s not clear if another firmware update for Switch can address the issue. It is also unlikely that the manufacturers of these docks will be able to provide a firmware update to address any issues.
This isn’t the first time third-party docks have had compatibility issues with the Switch console. In 2018, Nintendo released Update 5.0.0 for the original Switchwhich not only caused some docks to stop working, but also caused problems with the consoles using those docks. 2019 report from Wired I found that some third-party platforms tried to emulate the same fast connections to the USB-C port on the Switch as they do with Nintendo’s official platform. If the device has a minor manufacturing defect where the connections are not connected tightly, it may cause the USB-C power port on the adapter to fail.
Nintendo recommends that Switch owners use official Nintendo products for the system.
The latest firmware update for the Switch 2 went live on Tuesday and made a series of quality of life changes on the Switch 2, such as changing certain text in Settings to provide a better description of its functions; Added option to cancel multiple software downloads at once; Adding icons to the program to indicate whether it is a physical or digital version. This latest change refers to Game key card feature For some Switch 2 games that do not have the entire game on the cartridge and require downloading the game files.
