Tesla Powerwall 2 recall extends to US after reports of fires

In the Australian recall, the battery cells inside the Powerwalls were manufactured by an unnamed third-party supplier. Tesla did not immediately respond to a question about which cell manufacturer was covered by the US recall.

In all, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said five of the Powerwalls caught fire, causing minor property damage, and another six began smoking. The remaining 11 overheated. Electric Reported for the first time News.

CPSC posted the recall notice on its website today. The affected Powerwalls were sold between November 2020 and December 2022. The agency is urging people to check that their batteries are online and then check the Tesla app to see if the unit is included in the recall.

Tesla will unload the affected Internet-connected units, and the company will provide replacements.
