BeamO, the “thermometer of the future,” is now available in the United States and has FDA approval.

As seen in Consumer Electronics Show 2024the health technology company has introduced Withings BeamO, which it calls “the thermometer of the future.” In addition to taking your temperature, it features EKG sensors and a stethoscope to monitor your heart and lung health. As of Thursday, the device has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and is available for purchase in the United States.

Using just your fist, the two electrodes on the side of the BeamO can perform a medically approved ECG in less than a minute, displaying real-time measurements on its LED screen. This can only be used by adults aged 22 and over. With a Withings Plus subscription and this feature, people in Europe and the United States can benefit from a heart scan, a remote heart health assessment performed by a cardiologist in less than 24 hours.

Users can also perform auscultation (aka listening to sounds produced by the body’s organs), picking up sound waves of the chest or back to hear the heart and lungs via headphones. During a telehealth consultation, audio streaming enables the doctor to help you determine optimal placement of the device. This is similar to what a doctor does with a stethoscope. However, this feature is not intended for diagnosis or treatment, but rather for recording and sharing with the doctor.

Going back to basics, BeamO can also measure your body temperature through non-contact analysis of the temporal artery in your temple.

“These sensors record the electrical activity of the heart as well as measure infrared radiation to interpret body temperature,” said Xavier Debreuil, director of product research at Withings, in a press release. “On the other hand, they capture sound waves to study the activity of the heart and lungs. All data is analyzed by artificial intelligence algorithms to identify anomalies.”

This data can be shared with your doctor through the secure HealthLink feature in the Withings app.

How much does BeamO cost?

BeamO is available now for $250 through Withings website. It comes with a free one-month subscription to Withings Plus and a free heart scan. In early 2026, you can also purchase the device through Amazon and other select retailers.

A Withings Plus subscription is currently priced at $10 per month or $100 per year. The app itself is free, but with a Plus subscription, you also get a long-term health assessment, a weekly breakdown by health sector, an ECG-enabled cardiologist review every 90 days, an in-app chatbot, automatic trend detection, measurement insights, and a daily vitals bar that provides a breakdown of your body data.
