Joseph Sikora takes on a surprising part of Tommy Egan’s story in ‘Power Book IV: Force’

There’s a certain sense of satisfaction that comes with knowing that Tommy Egan will cancel Christmas for at least one person in the Power franchise. With snitches, the FBI, and business rivals in the mix in Power Book IV: Force, fans can expect him to appear in his infamous black jacket and increase his powers. The body count is also notorious.

When Power Book IV: Force begins its final season on Starz on Friday, the series finds Joseph Sikora’s character swimming (not sinking) through multiple conflicts and circling his now-iconic blue Mustang around Chicago one last time. He faces threats while being a threat himself. Where will Season 3 take Tommy, Diamond, Miria, Flynn and all the rival drug cartels as the show ends?

I had the opportunity to watch the first few episodes of this final season and spoke with Sikora about Tommy’s history and the storyline in this final installment. It turns out that even after all these years playing one of the most ruthless — and fan-favorite — characters in the series, the actor found there was an unexpected element to the narrative this time around.

Tommy’s romance surprises Joseph Sikora in season three

Viewers have known Sikora in his role as Tommy Egan for over 10 years, and we’ve seen the character have love interests in both the original Power series and in this Force spinoff. There was Holly, the troublemaker (whom he loved dearly), there was also Lakeisha, and for a short time in Power Book IV, Gloria caught Tommy’s attention.

Season 2 brings Tommy and Miria together, but it’s a forbidden love, because she’s the younger sister of local drug lord (and enemy) Miguel Garcia. However, there was something about the duo’s dynamic that surprised Sikora after playing Tommy for so many years.

Sikora explained how Lennon wrote him as a complex character, drawing from his history, his family, his flaws and his humanity. “I always say that this character is really equal parts Joseph Sikora and Gary Lennon.” “I’m amazed by the relationship with Miria,” Sikora said. “I think it reflects on us in a way – as the Rolling Stones said, you can’t always get what you want – I think Gary Lennon says you can never get exactly what you want. That never happens.”

Speaking about Tommy’s tendency to try to start a family wherever he goes, the actor said: “When he’s been successful or unsuccessful this season with Miria, making her family and whatever else is going on, I think, ‘Is that a good thing?’ Given Tommy’s track record, it’s a fair question.

There are always opposing forces in power

Longtime fans know that Tommy’s love life was never stable, and that each of his partners died violent deaths. It remains to be seen whether he and Miria hit it off as the season progresses, but Sikora knows his character, and knows how things tend to look in the world of power.

“Tommy’s idea of what would be cool for him Not at all “Great thing for him,” he said. Referring to Tommy’s goal of wanting to eventually become “the biggest drug dealer in the world, controlling a cartel,” he said it never ends, and the character is busy with work.

“But as in classic power play, will that make him happy? Of course not,” Sikora added. “For every other success he has along this journey, no matter where he goes, there will always be a similar failure. We live in a world of the power of yin and yang. We manifest the yang, but we never forget the yin. You will never have it all.”

Be sure to tune in to Power Book IV: Forced every Friday at midnight ET on the Starz streaming service, or Fridays at 8pm ET/PT on the Starz cable channel in the US (9pm ET/PT in Canada).
