You can tell Porsche wanted this one to feel livelier than the other Electric machines. It’s not just about numbers. The new GTS has the most powerful rear engine in the range, delivering up to 420kW with launch control and a maximum torque of 955Nm.
It also borrows heavily from the Macan Turbo’s performance setup, with an electronically controlled locking rear differential, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, and a 48:52 weight distribution at the rear. The sports air suspension has been dropped by 10mm from standard and tuned for sharpness, giving it a proper stance and a level of agility you wouldn’t expect from a 100kWh electric SUV.
There is a clear focus on the emotional side as well. Porsche’s Electric Sport Sound system has been given two GTS-specific profiles that change the tone depending on whether you’re in Sport or Sport Plus mode. The idea is to make the car sound less sterile, although the artificial sound will never replace the roar of the engine. That’s more than enough to make it a truly usable everyday electric car with a suitable sporty edge. While the Tesla Model Y may outperform the Macan GTS in terms of price and speed, the Porsche option will give you a more traditional experience that will last longer on the road.
