Box Palma just got a big update

Hello friends! Welcome to Installer No. 103 is your guide to the best and edge-The most wonderful things in the world. (If you’re new here, welcome, sorry everything’s so expensive this week. You can also read all the old issues at Installer Home.)

This week I was reading about it gogoing and Costco and Protein bars and Jonas BrothersGluttony Nobody wants this Season 2, trying to figure out how to save $4,500 The new Rivian e-bikeTell anyone who will listen T-Pain still gets itI’m learning everything I can about… Louvre robbery-Play an amazing amount of fortnite On my iPad, doing my shopping Yuto players After about a dozen of you told me I should do it. Thanks for that.

I also have a sleek new e-reader, a new AI-powered browser, a new version of your old favorite game, and much more.

also, Keep sending us your favorite, endlessly rewatchable stuff! I’ve received so many responses already that I think next week’s issue might be entirely dedicated to the topic… Keep sending in shows, movies, TikToks, creators, and all the things you come back to again and again!

(As always, the best part of… Installer These are your thoughts and advice. What are you reading/watching/playing/printing/patching with duct tape this week? • The Box Palma 2 Pro. My love for this smartphone-sized e-reader knows no bounds. (Okay, some limits, but not much.) This new model is great: it has a color screen, cellular connectivity, pen input…is it almost a phone? At $399, the price is moving in the wrong direction, but I’m very curious about this thing.
  • ChatGPT Atlas. AI browsers are kind of a dime a dozen. It’s Chrome with a chatbot everywhere you look! But given the sheer size of ChatGPT, this is important anyway; If anyone can make a real impact on the browser market right now, it’s OpenAI.
  • Plants vs Zombies: Replanted. The good news: Pffz He’s back! The bad news: It doesn’t seem like anyone tried very hard with this reboot. The upshot, I guess: I’ve already played it a lot and will do so for the foreseeable future.
  • Samsung Galaxy XR. It’s the Vision Pro, but lighter, more comfortable, and at half the price. I’m not optimistic about headphones as a genre right now, but this still stands Very good sales pitch! As an entertainment device, Samsung may have something here.
  • Corona ink. It’s the Samsung Frame TV of digital photo frames: a 13.5-inch E Ink panel that hangs on your wall and only seems to need charging every few months. Clean ideaand everyone I know who has Aura frames loves them, but the $499 price tag is a hard pill to swallow.
  • Thrive. I’ve tried a bunch of Mac apps that make navigating the entire system a little easier – TabTab It’s one of my favorite apps lately – and I really like this app’s improvements to Finder. It’s worth it for the file renaming and image resizing tools alone.
  • Dynamite house. Another for “Hypothesis is probably somewhat true?” files, but everything I’m hearing about Kathryn Bigelow’s new Netflix film about the brink of war suggests it’s as interesting as you’d hope. This is first on my watch list this weekend.
  • Fujifilm X-T30 III. Lotta new cameras this week, including from Leica and Lomography! But I’m a fan of Fujifilm’s X series — the company does a great job of making filters and presets more accessible, and So find smart ways To integrate artificial intelligence.
  • camping. A Tubi original film, directed by and starring the winner of a platform-wide competition for new creators. It’s a character horror movie, and the trailer either looks good or very bad, and I love campy horror movies. I’m weirdly excited about this.

John Huggins I’ve forgotten more about televisions than I ever knew. He’s only been here for a few weeks as a Senior TV and Audio Reviewer, and I’ve already been impressed with his knowledge and credentials – including the fact that he’s a Certified TV Calibrator, which is now instantly my new life goal.

However, you will see John everywhere Edge Covering audio and video equipment of all types. I asked him to share his home screen, because I like to show new people, see if he’s bad with phones and I can feel an ounce of superiority over him. Unfortunately, there are no dice.

This is John’s home screen, plus some information about which apps he uses and why:

Phone: I’m currently using an iPhone 15 Pro Max, but I’m considering upgrading to the 17.

wallpaper: It’s a photo of a redwood tree from when I took a drive up the West Coast from Los Angeles to a little north of Seattle in 2023. I camped for a few days among the redwoods, went hiking, and was completely amazed to be surrounded by the nature of Indore… I mean, Northern California.

Applications: Wallet, Settings, Camera, Apple Maps, FaceTime, Reminders, Apple Notes, Chrome, Safari, Weather, Find My, Photos, SoCal Sound, Phone, Messages, Mail, Calendar.

I’m kind of bad at organizing my apps (although I took this opportunity to clean them up a bit). I usually just download them and show them at the end of my list. I have six screens of apps at the moment, including a large number of AV apps for each manufacturer.

My home screen includes the things I use most often: email, various social networks (like Instagram, Signal, WhatsApp, and LinkedIn), the My Home app to control the device, a slew of streaming apps, and of course the games I play the most. Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (which I’ve been playing since it launched almost 10 years ago) and Marvel Strike Force.

I also asked John to share some of the things he’s interested in now. Here’s what he sent back:

  • Now, my son is really starting to get into it star wars (Finally!) So we’re watching the movies and about to start The Clone Wars.
  • I’ve also recently started following an interesting content creator on Instagram, Dave Chisholma comic book artist and musician who dissects the brilliant music theories of Radiohead’s songs accompanied by his illustrations. I have a master’s degree in music performance, so I really looked into the way he breaks down song structure and musical symbolism so effortlessly.
  • I’m also huge I sign Fan, I’m happy that the new season of Make some noise I’m just getting started.

I’m in an eternal struggle with what I call “scrolling apps” on my phone. I’ll delete Reddit, Threads, Bluesky, Instagram, and everything else, and then I’m stuck in line at Costco and suddenly, they’re all there again. Reading is definitely good, and I love doing crossword puzzles, but sometimes I do He wants To look at my phone for 10 minutes, you know?

The best thing I’ve found, somewhat surprisingly, is… I sign. (I wrote this before John told me he also loves Dropout, I swear.) I only recently became a subscriber, and its giant library of feel-good comedy turns out to be the perfect thing to watch a few minutes at a time. (Sam RichIf you’re reading this: Give me a vertical video feed of all your social clips, in the app!) Make some noise This episode left me in a much better mood than DoomScrolling does, and like the rest of the internet, I’m quickly converting to Brennan Lee Mulligan Distinguished. Highly recommended in all respects.
