Microsoft Edge’s new Copilot mode turns on more AI features

Copilot Mode links Microsoft’s AI assistant more closely with Edge, as it combines AI-generated responses, search results, and navigation into a single window. It also draws from all your tabs – not just the ones you’re using – allowing you to ask Copilot to summarize information across all your open windows or compare products in each one.

Although Microsoft previously launched Copilot mode as a beta feature, it is now available for everyone to try, along with some new features available in limited preview. This includes a Copilot Actions proxy feature that can do things like unsubscribe from marketing emails or book a reservation on your behalf.

Just like Other AI browsers thereCopilot’s proxy features are not completely reliable yet. Copilot displays a warning before taking any action that the tool is “intended for research and evaluation purposes” and “may make errors.” When I asked it to delete an email, for example, Copilot said it had deleted it, but failed to actually do so. He also lied about sending an email he composed directly in Gmail. However, the assistant successfully unsubscribed from the mailing list.

Outside of my email inbox, Copilot had difficulty getting me a reservation at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City. I asked her to book an appointment for November 26th, and even though she told me she had a reservation for that date, the AI chose October 26th instead.

Edge’s Copilot Mode can now use your browsing history to provide better responses — but only if you give it permission. Microsoft is releasing Journeys in preview as well. Trips is an AI-powered feature that organizes your browsing history into topics and makes suggestions on what to search for next. I haven’t browsed enough with the new experience to see my own travels, but it looks like it might help you quickly dive into a topic you visit often.

You can turn on Copilot mode by downloading Edge and toggling the switch On the Microsoft website. If you’re in the US, you can also scroll down to enable Copilot Actions and Copilot Journeys in the preview.
