Spotify on Wednesday promotion The AI DJ feature – available to Premium subscribers – comes with a host of new features, including the ability to submit your requests by writing, not just using voice commands.
The feature works with requests in both English and Spanish, such as Spotify requests A DJ in Spanish called DJ Liviis now accepting music requests.
AI DJ feature has been updated earlier this year to accept voice applicationsinstead of only playing tunes that Spotify thinks you’ll like. However, this feature was only available to English-speaking AI DJs until today.
Texting using an AI assistant is now a common behavior, thanks to the growing popularity of AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini. These services allow multimedia entries, meaning you can either talk, text, or upload photos and files as part of your order. As more people get used to switching back and forth between input methods, Apple has rolled out a version of its Siri assistant that can also be accessed via text messages.
It’s a natural next step for Spotify’s AI feature to accept text input as well, since users often engage with the streaming service while out and about or in a quiet place where they don’t want to disturb others by issuing voice commands.
In addition to the new text messaging feature, Spotify says the AI DJ will also now offer personalized quick suggestions to help inspire you if you’re not sure what you want to listen to next.
To access a DJ, simply search for the term “DJ” on Spotify and press play to launch your curated selection of music. If you want to change the music, you can tap the DJ button at the bottom right of the screen, then make your suggestion via voice or text.
Spotify notes that DJs can handle requests that combine genre, mood, artist, or activity. The feature is currently available in English and Spanish in more than 60 markets around the world.
