Amazon is preparing to present the second season of the series Award winning series He falls On December 17th Prime Video. The new season takes us to a place called New Vegas, making it a great time to explore – or revisit – that area in Fallout: New Vegas. Xbox Game Pass now.
In the trailer for the upcoming season of Fallout, we see Lucy (Ella Purnell), ghouls (Walton Goggins) and his trusty Dogmeat who traverses the irradiated desert to reach the quaint city of New Vegas. Lucy continues to search for her father while the ogre potentially searches for the cause of the end of the world, and all roads lead to a roulette wheel in the desert formerly known as Las Vegas. The trailer is filled with characters and set pieces that anyone familiar with New Vegas will recognize, and the game can give you some ideas about what to expect when Season 2 airs.
According to our sister site CNET HowLongtoBeatYou can play the game’s main story and side quests in about 60 hours. So you have plenty of time to play the game on either of them Xbox Game Pass Premium or Ultimate ($15 and $30 per monthrespectively) ahead of the show’s December 17 premiere.
Here’s what to know about Fallout: New Vegas and some of the lore behind the characters and locations we’ll see in the show.
Warning: Fallout: New Vegas spoilers ahead.
In this RPG, you will play a character called Courier. At the beginning of the game, you are kidnapped while making a delivery, shot by a man named Benny, and left for dead. You survived, and with nothing but a thirst for revenge, you set out across the desert to find Benny and give him a taste of his own medicine.
Along the way, you’ll explore different towns, learn about different desert factions and interact with rogues, such as the eponymous character amazing Who tells you that he has a theoretical degree in physics? It’s a wild game, full of excellent writing and great set pieces.
Bethesda published the game about 15 years ago, in 2010, so the controls may seem a bit uncomplicated. A character’s movements may appear robotic, and in some cases, this is because the character is a robot. But overall, this is still a fun game that gives you a glimpse into the desert and shows you a lot of the places and people you’ll see in the show, like Lucky 38 and Mr. House.
Lucky 38 is a key element in the plot of Fallout: New Vegas, and appears in Season 2 of Fallout.
Lucky 38 is a casino located in New Vegas and the seat of power of Mr. House, who runs the New Vegas strip. In the game, no one has set foot inside Lucky 38 in over 200 years, nor seen House.
The house controls New Vegas and robots, called Securitron, which enforce order throughout the area. In the game, you mostly interact with House via a computer screen, but as we see in the trailer, he was a person before the bombs fell.
See casino and house (Justin Theroux) in the Season 2 trailer during the flashbacks, and both appear to be just as important to the upcoming season as they were in the game.
Victor isn’t that bad of a robot in the game. We’ll see if he maintains that reputation on the show.
One of the secretaries in the house is called Victor. In the game, he rescues the Courier outside the community of Good Springs. House sent him to the community, and he will appear again later in the game. He is recognizable because he is the only Securitron robot with a cowboy face and the only one who speaks with an accent.
We see Victor briefly in the trailer in what appears to be a rundown shack, likely in Good Springs. Since he knows something about House, we might see the ghoul or someone else trying to get information about House’s location from him.
Caesar’s Legion is one of the most brutal factions in New Vegas.
The Legion is a very nasty faction in the Wastelands, modeled after the Roman Empire. It is an authoritarian military dictatorship whose members are fanatical in their loyalty to their leader, Caesar. Legion members wear old sports equipment and carry out brutal attacks on civilians and other factions.
In the game, the Tsar’s Legion enslaves or kills anyone who does not join them, and one in-game community is destroyed while some of its residents are crucified. If you encounter members of Caesar’s Legion in the game, especially early in the game, you should run the other way.
The trailer shows Lucy being led by a Legionnaire through a Legion camp. It’s not clear if she’s been captured or is making a deal with them, but you can’t really make a deal with the Legion. You just have to accept their terms.
I love this giant dinosaur statue.
elegant! This giant dinosaur is the mascot of Novak City, formerly known as the Dino-Dee Lite Motel off the New Vegas Strip. Novak is a small settlement where merchants can usually be found, and in the Fallout Season 2 trailer, a gunfight or ambush appears to occur in this small community. We also see Lucy crouched in the snipe nest which is Denki’s mouth. And in the game, you can go there yourself to meet a potential mate. You can also purchase Dinky toys in the game from the gift shop inside Dinky, and I hope we get to see these little guys appear in the show.
We get a quick glimpse of the Atomic Wrangler’s exterior in the trailer.
This bar is located in a part of New Vegas called Freeside, which is just off the New Vegas strip. It’s also based on a real liquor store on Fremont Street in Las Vegas Atomic drinks. You can gamble and eventually buy a prostitute here if you complete the right tasks, but just like any good casino in Vegas, if you win too much money, the establishment will kick you out. And the ghoul appears to have actually been kicked out of this establishment via a second or third floor window in the trailer for the upcoming Fallout season.
Gomorrah is another casino on the New Vegas Strip.
Gomorrah is a casino and brothel in New Vegas run by the Omertas family, one of the three families – mobsters – on the New Vegas Strip. The Omertas family is very secretive and does not provide information freely. Their gang also only has one rule – never betray family – so they can be ruthless.
Gomorrah also has the distinction of being one of the few ghoul-friendly establishments in-game, but in the trailer, we see the ghoul getting into some kind of out-of-place shootout. Maybe she’s not as ghoul-friendly as one would hope.
The peaks seem to have seen better days.
This is another casino in New Vegas run by the Bosses, and it’s another of the three families. In the game, their leader is Benny, the bastard who shot the courier and started the entire game. The casino and the bosses try to offer their customers an old Hollywood style of luxury, but they are still brutal. And what’s that in the trailer? Another gunfight outside gang headquarters? Okay, I will be.
You can barely see the head of the Death Claw, but just know that these people are deadly.
We saw the Deathclaw Skull near the end of Fallout’s first season, and the Season 2 trailer puts our characters face-to-face with a living person. These creatures are huge, bipedal lizards, and are one of the toughest enemies you’ll face in the game. They are fast and can deal and absorb a lot of damage. I would highly recommend anyone avoid interacting with these creatures, and it looks like Lucy and the ghouls will have a close encounter with one of these creatures next season.
Once again, you can now explore all of these areas and more in New Vegas Game Pass Premium and Ultimate Ahead of the Fallout Season 2 premiere on December 17.
