The European Union checks Apple, Google and Microsoft on online fraud

The European Union wants to evaluate whether Apple, Google and Microsoft are doing enough to prevent the spread of online fraud on its platforms. Financial times Reports that European Union organizers officially request information from the three American technology companies under the Digital Services Law regarding their efforts to address financial fraud, as well as reservation, the global residence platform that owns Booking.com and other travel sites.

“We see that more and more criminal procedures are online,” said the head of technology in the European Union, Hanna Ferkkonin for Publishing. “We have to make sure that online platforms take all their efforts to discover this type of illegal content and prevent it.”

Organizers will evaluate how to deal with Apple and Google with fraudulent applications such as fake banking applications in their application stores, while Google and Microsoft search engines will be examined for fake search results. Reservation will be analyzed, the only company to be examined in Europe, on how to deal with fake residence lists. These information requests can lead to the launch of official investigations into the four companies, which would leave them in the face of possible fines of up to six percent of their annual global rotation.
