The new General Motors transformers reflect the reality that is increasingly confused

today, General Motors announced three additional transformers To help EV owners in home or in public places. While I am sure that General Motors believed that she was providing information as much as possible, I can only wonder what his normal owners should think about all of this.

The new transformers aim to help customers move between the old CCS method for charging a future dominated by Tesla charging. The vast majority of auto manufacturers have adhered to adopting the NACS standard for shipping, with acknowledging that the Tesla Supercharger network is superior to the CCS third -party charging stations that are located today.

I can only wonder what is not natural owners to think about all of this.

Car manufacturers said they will start making EVS with integrated NACS ports, but without Tesla EV owners can access the TESLA super charger using CCS-TO-NACS transformers in the meantime.

But the change was slow. the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 It was the first other than Tesla EV for sale with the original NACS port. But as far as I know, there was no one else. General Motors says he is coming Cadillac Optiq-v It will be the first EV with a built -in NACS shipping port, but this car will not be available until later this year. Chevy Bolt 2027 will also have the original NACS port, next year.

Meanwhile, there is an increasing family of dongle to treat this strange place, between us, we are now with the charging of EV. There are the typical CCS-To-Nacs that most automobile companies sell to their customers. Now there is a NACS-TO-J1772 Loading 2-j1772 Adapter as part of the CCS plug used to charge the slower. And when General Motors begin to produce EVS with the original NACS ports, there will be two other transfers available: J1772 to NACS Dongles for slow charging and CCS to NACS for fast charging.

Here’s GM’s Infographic that “explains” all this:

Again, what is the natural person, not owned-but perhaps Ev-Curious-to think about all this? Will they abandon the warm gas pumps to this transformed hell? Don’t understand me wrong, I am happy that General Motors offer more transformers to its customers for more flexibility for all the shipping levels. This is undoubtedly good.

But we already know that the charging EV can be a little scratch. EV owners complained of changing shipping speeds, types of plugs and non -standard networks, lack of prices for public shipping, and issues related to communication between the car and the charger. It improves, and most people who ship them at home should not face many problems. But if you are trying to bring new people to experience, this is not useful.

I am concerned that the list of the growing transformers that EV will need to obtain any charging scenario that can be a large barrier on the way to the adoption of EV – those that are already scattered with great obstacles. I try to imagine that my mother, who owns the Ford Mustang Mach-e, is struggling with the basics of smartphones, and transmits all these transformers while they are to Palm Springs to visit her friends.

Many to ask! Let’s hope that there will be a complete world of STO charging over this next hill.
