The Verge: Can you tell me about the first time that I heard Jeff Backer’s music?

Amy Berg: I was a teenager working in SST Records. I am in the industry, I heard a copy of beauty. It is just a kind of open pieces. He made me this in the heart, and I fell in love with Jeff Buckly. Because of what I was attracted to in the article, I decided to end with his death. There is a world in which his death can begin. I mean, there is a really interesting story after Jeff’s death. But I think what I wanted was to overwhelm people and immerse in his world by watching the movie and then finding their own journey to his music and anything that spoke to them. Because it is a personal experience. Listening to his music is a personal experience. So I just want to encourage, especially people who have not heard his music before, to go down to the rabbit hole because it is fun. It is really incredible.

The blood vessels have a moment of kind – why is Jeff story should be a documentary?

I was asked to take a CV at some point, and give me this thumb engine with all the archives, and those voice mail messages cut my heart. I thought it was a documentary. Sometimes, as a documentary, I somewhat think about the perception of real people, and it seems difficult to determine imagination. But then look at Timothy Chalamit and Anonymous. This was one of the most incredible experiences of the year. So who knows? maybe. There is still time. There is still a movie that can be made.

Mary had to trust me, and it took a long time because I wanted the final reduction. This is like, I will not do a piece of blow or anything, and I will not be told of what I say and do not say. So it was important for me that she trusts me. This took some time. It took at least 10 years.

I imagine that a romantic budget for Jeff music and building narration was not easy.

It was really difficult editing, and balance is important. I mean, it was difficult because many people looked at Jeff as it goes on the water.

Thus, there were multiple interviews with certain topics because I wanted to reach its stones as well, and I gave a glimpse of a real person struggling. And I think he was young. He was very weak, raw, artistic, creative, and carried his art at a very high level. But he was also trying to sort things, and this is not always beautiful.

no. Because he felt as if it were the true Ceff. There was a lot of different versions of Jeff, and I felt as if they were different audio messages, showing it well. They were always part of what I wanted to use in the movie.

How were your conversations with Mary like her inclusion?

“Here is the archive. Do what you want. Tell the story as you want to tell it.”

I have seen some journalists say that there are many restrictions because of Mary, but she did not shorten me. I wanted to tell a love story about Jeff and women in his life, and this is the story that I saw.
