Astro Bot Full with tremor and deception that makes you want to pay attention to the details. But in a presentation at this year’s game developer conference, director Nicholas Dostit shared a certain aspect of Astro the Robot that I did not notice but blew me away.
Doucet talked about how Team Asobi works hard to give the game a good pace with things like an enemy position and how you can interact with the Astro spacecraft with Gyro Dualseense controls on download screens. The only thing that kept the momentum continues is the ASTRO itself and how its patience is running out. Doucet showed a video of an inactive animation where ASTRO moves up and down on his feet and indicates forward, like a young child asking you to go to the field.
He is adorable – I add “very late” in development, Dostit says when I talk to him a few weeks after the presentation. Although many games have characters breathing or looking to the left to the right while they were inactivity, Team Asobi thought he could do something a little more fun. Since the game revolves around saving the characters, the team began linking the animation to the idea of looking around, says Dostit. The team even reduced the amount of time it takes to show it as a way to remind the goal player more quickly to find robots. Dosette considers this as a camouflage to put players in a mood to move faster.
Astro actually stems from the PS4 Pack-in 2013 game called Play room That used the PS4 camera. In that game, the ASOBI robot is called, but it is very similar to Astro charming from Astro BotAsobi has large blue eyes and a cute robot body, Pudgy. “At that time, the character’s design came from two angles,” says Dostit. One of them is that the development team did not have much time, so they went to design a simple character rather than a person who might require a lot of face animation.
But they also chose a robot because of the place where it will happen for the first time: a game pre -installed on (at the time) of new Sony devices. When you think about Sony or PlayStation, Doucet says that there is an “ambition for the future” or something “a little science fiction”. TEAM Asobi uses the term “Techno Magic”. The robot design came from this: “We wanted a fun fun character, but also besides a really great and future thing.”
Dostit says that PS5 and Astro devices may share many similarities – white plastic with black parts and blue lights – but this is an accident. Instead, both the letter designers and the team’s team were following similar values.
Although it is insulting to hear that people treat Astro as PlayStation, Doucet says this was not the original intention of the design team of the character. Instead, the amulet should be something “grows naturally” and something that users decide or feel it. This occurs through frequent consistency and quality, as Dossit believes.
In the past, the game prizes-including the Game of the Game Awards-deserved to be worth the game, but the goal is primarily to return the family-friendly platforms and family games on the map and version “a good game as possible”. Doset used to look at the famous PlayStation Studios like Naughty Dog (unknownand Another of usSanta Monica Studio (God’s war) And they believed that they knew a kind of “black magic” that the Asbi team did not do.
But the following Astro BotReady -made meals “in fact, the sum of many small things that were carefully made.” If the team maintains this consistency and makes sure that “every bit” is implemented as much as possible, then “the sum of the matter ends up with high quality.” No wonder Astro is patience to explore.
