Zeus is now the most powerful laser in the country in 2 Petawats of Power.


The University of Michigan has announced that the equivalent Ultrash Pulse Zettawatt has produced 2 PETAWATTS, or 2 Quadrillion Wats of Energy during its first experience. This is more than “100 times the production of global electric energy”, according to the university, but do not expect to be harnessed to re -create the star of death. These intensive strong explosions last only 25 Quintillionth from a second period, and will be used for experiments in various areas of research including medicine, quantum physics and material science.

Funded by the American National Science Foundation, ZEUS costs $ 16 million for construction and includes ingredients such as sapphire crystals size 7 inches filled with titanium atoms that lasted for more than four years for manufacturing. “The size of our titanium sapphire is only a few in the world,” says Franco Bayer, director of the Zeus project.
