Earlier this week, Scottish artist Verne Hook published on social media that her work appeared in Marathon Alpha without her knowledge or permission. “Its environments are covered with the assets that were raised from the designs of the stickers that I did in 2017,” Hook wrote on x.
Bungie says he was aware of this issue and determined that the art team did not know that the artwork was stolen and that the former employee was responsible for adding the assets. The studio also said that he had arrived in the fern to discuss the matter and that he was “committed to doing the artist.”
This is not the first time that the artist’s work has been used for the Bungie product without his permission. In 2024, Bungie agreed to compensate the artist Tofu Rabbit after discovering that a design Fate 2-They are Nerf gun Litely torn from Vannara for her. Bungie was also accused of using other creators Fate 2 Fanart References and Cutscenes without permission.
Bungie says she is reviewing her assets inside the game, especially those that former employees did to ensure that this does not happen again (or again, or again).
